RE: [cobalt-users] [raq4] FTP - Admin user denied ?!!?

I haven't read all your previous post, but...

1) If you don't know how to get access to ALL the site ANYTIME then you
really shouldn't have that power.

* I know how Bob, that's my problem. Up until a few days ago I could log
into ftp as "admin" and have access to ALL sites. That's the only thing I
do. I am not the admin. I HAVE an administrator however he's on holidays.

2) You probably didn't get the answer for what your looking for cause your
asking a very generic question and need to be more specific.

* My original question was very specific. The question is... " Up until a
few days ago, I could log into ftp as "admin" and be able to view, delete,
copy, make, etc however NOW.... I have no permission to do so.

3) If you log on as "admin" meaning the SERVER admin NOT a site admin, you
will have priveleges to all files in all the sites EXCEPT the ones owned by
ROOT. What this means is that if someone logged on as root and ftp'ed files
or changed the owner permission you will not be able to write, read, or
execute the file depending on its permissions. But I get the feeling you
have no idea what I just said.

* Clear as crystal. We only use root where necessary.
[admin sites]$ ls -la
total 31
drwxrwsr-x   6 nobody   site1        1024 Nov 16  2001 site1
drwxrwsr-x   6 nobody   site10       1024 Dec 12  2001 site10
etc.

HOWEVER.... The shortcuts are owned by root:
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           18 Sep 29  2001 somedomain.com ->
/home/sites/site18
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           18 Oct 19  2001
someotherdomain.com -> /home/sites/site26

4) You really want us to recommend someone to help you after you put us down
like that?
* "None of what people have posted rectifies my problem." - It wasn't meant
to offend. It's an emotive expression of frustration because you guys go a
bull at a gate giving me alternatives to what I WAS doing.. instead of
addressing the problem at hand.

5) This relates to point 1 if you have to HIRE an EXPERT you really should
think twice about being the server admin.

* I have an expert. He's on holidays.

You can contact me off list and I will be happy to give you more FREE
advice.

* Thanks

Regards,

Bob Cruz
