If it fails the next good idea would be to pull the drive and try to
read it in another Linux box. I'd do that before buying another drive;
it could be something else.
You might also check for loose connections; we once had a RaQ shipped by
Cobalt come with a nice rattle inside; it turned out the fan had come
loose in shipping.
