Hello everyone.
I am new to this list and I am considering a Qube 3 to use (primarily) as an
FTP server.
Is it possible to install software onto a Qube3?
I spoke with a Sun sales rep and basically he told me that I 'could' do it,
but I would be doing it at my own risk and I wouldn't get any tech support
from them if something 'broke'.
I would like to install CrushFTP (www.crushftp.com) onto a Qube3.
(I know the Qube3 can run as an FTP server right out of the box, but
CrushFTP server has a lot more features ... features I need)
If it IS possible to install CrushFTP onto a Qube3, then:
(1) Would you also need something like KDE running on the Qube? (CrushFTP
is not a web based app. When the software is running, you need to be able to
see the status window, not to mention the configuration screens for adding
users, setting prefs, etc.)
(2) What flavor of Linux runs on the Qube3? CrushFTP runs on Linux, but
would it have to be 'recompiled' to run on the Qube3? (I'm new to Linux).
(3) Are there any pcAnywhere- or Timbuktu-like apps that I could ALSO
install on the Qube3 so that I could view CrushFTP as well as the 'desktop'
of the Qube3?
Perhaps I am better off just installing Linux an old pc instead?
Thanks ... and sorry for the long post.
