If he has the domain name he's required by RFCs to answer certain email
to it, including I believe postmaster@xxxxxxxxxxx
If he doesn't do that, then he could end up getting his IP#s blocked.
especially if he bounces email back rather than blackholing it.
If you buy a domain name it's probably responsible to handle it's email.
There are other lists where this question would better be asked.
