Let me sure that I have this correct, you can get mail to the
user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx but not to user@xxxxxxxxxxxx?

Does mydomain.com have a line in /etc/mail/local-host-names?
If not add it and restart sendmail (/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart)
