Check the archives, there are many references to it.

Basically you will need to mount the drive in another linux machine, remove
the old, archived log files, etc.

Then remount the drive, then you will want to move the log files to
/home/logs or something like that.

Then make links from /home/logs/ to /var/log and you will never face this
problem again.

Again though the archives have this step by step method in detail.
