go to http://www.gfisoftware.com/languard/ and get the network scanner demo
software, it will deffo tell you what is "up" on your network, and will give
you some good data to start from, rather than just poking around in the
dark...
windows boxes are "funny", esp newer OSes that have QoS and IEEE802
authentication turned on by default, or running zone alarm or similar
firewall software... my personal preference with windows machines is to
specify an IP address and workgroup name for each box individually, and a
default shared folder on each, C:\Z-shared, (which can later be deleted or
otherwise altered) and also check the "MAC address" of the network
adapters..... but languard network scanner will help you diagnose these
sorts of problems...
