[cobalt-users] Raq4 restores. do they actually work?

After a bonehead move (acccidentally doing a chmod 777 -R at the root of
/home, instead of the non-public directory I wanted to be in. DOH!). I tried
testing the restore feature via the browser, but all it would do after I
told it to do a full server restore was lock up my browser.(tried IE55 and
netscape 4.8) I would do a 3 finger salute, and it would show my browser not
responding.

during the lockup periods, No significant traffic appeared to be flowing
between the PC and the server from looking at the activity lights. I was
seeing maybe a flicker of traffic every couple seconds like it was maybe
VEEEERY slowly trickling the data to the server, or retrying and waiting for
a response. I let the PC sit for 30 mins or so, still no response.

I also tried restoring from the second ethernet port which doesnt go thru
my low speed network. No luck.

I didnt have any data on the server yet, but I didnt feel like sitting here
for 2 hours applying patches after a restore using the CD. I am buying a
second server soon to use as a development/test platform, but would like to
get the restore problem fixed so I can speed up the rebuilds after a test
session.

Anyone else had this problem?

Roy

PS can we have an "undo" command in the next rev of the kernel? LOL
