May I respectfully disagree <smile>?
You can adjust the index order if you like, but by default, most apache
installations set it on a system-wide basis:
Here's how it's set up on my RaQ4 (as one line, in the srm.conf file):
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml home.html home.htm
default.html default.htm index.php default.php index.asp default.asp
If you don't want to change it systemwide, you can change for just the
sites for which you want to change it.
But it's perfectly reasonable the way it is; the problem is that most
users don't know to delete sample index.html file, so the default.htm or
index.htm file never get seen.
I've even thought of a workaround... add to the end of the
DirectoryIndex line the following:
index.ihtm
And then use index.ihtm for the sample file. That way anything at all
will show up in front of it.
However no one else on the entire 'net has seen to agree with me <wry
grin>.
So change everything yourself <smile>. Just be aware that the "sauce"
may possibly overwrite the srm.conf file at any time (You can always
change it back.)
