No offense, but are you sure you got sitex/web and not sitex/users/name/web ???
You make the statement that you have about 50 sites, that is over 32 and admin can not log in to more than 32 sites. I thus take it you are not ftping in as admin. If you are ftping in as siteadmin you are then going to /sitex/users/siteadmin/web and not /sitex/web as a default.
