Well, it sucks for a lot of you who paid a little more for an appliance type
device expecting to have someone to call when things go wrong. I feel for
you.

On the other hand, in my case I wanted a decent piece of hardware with a GUI
to get me up and running immediately while I earned my Linux stripes, and
never intended to use Cobalt Support for anything. Then again, buying most
of my blue boxes second hand tends to change the economics just a bit....
;)

While homebuilt boxes and the various Ensim/Plesk/etc control panels are a
good alternative, the Cobalt offers a known, consistent hardware and
software platform that really simplifies learning how to admin a Linux box
through online resources such as this mailing list. Put another way, since
all of us are on Cobalts, two of the most significant variables are
eliminated when trying to solve a problem and learn from another's
mistakes/examples/solutions.

Just my $0.02,
