There has been some really great input on this thread, and I hope
others have found this conversation as useful as I have. I too would
prefer to keep this thread here so all the information is searchable
from one place.
So far I think everyone is staying on topic, and this is relevant to
all cobalt users. I dont think anyone wants to turn this converstation
into a "Cobalt Sucks" thread (because they dont, and THAT would be OT
IMHO).
Thanks to everyone that has offered their observations and feedback.
So far plesk, and webpllicance ls have been mentioned. Anyone know of
others? I know of programs that will do a PIECE of the admim tasks
(i.e. phpmyadmin), but these are the only "complete" packaged solutions
I know of.

Check your aliases/virtusertable .. there's one extra entry added

It is something like listname-list or listname_list.
I don't know if cobalt has fixed this thing or not.

I just purchased the webapplience software from ensim so I could
evaluate
it,
so far what I do not like is that it is based on RH 6.2 which will not
load
on the
newer AMD processor machines. The installer will not work on a Duron or
Athelon
based processor which are just about all I am using now !! I will be
contacting them
on Monday to find out if it will work with any other version of RH like
say
Oh 7.2 !!
I will keep you advised. Myself I have bought 8 Raq's in the last 6
months, all used, I like the
appliance Idea. I like the fact the power requirements are very low and
that
no monitor is required.
What I did / do not like is that only 200 sites can be hosted per
machine.
But I considered it a fair
tradeoff of simplicity vs # of sites. I LIKED the fact the I could call
up
cobalt after I bought it and get
30 days support free, Now that does not work and have paid for support
on
new machines
( well new to me anyway ) 3 times now. Once after having done an update
and
having the DNS
just die !! We ended up doing an os restore and then reloading
everything
( PAIN ! ) Add that to
the fact that raq4's still seem way overpriced and I see myself sticking
to
the Raq2's and Raq3's for
a while longer.

Okay I've manage to get ssh running using ssh2 and the daemon

and easy with webmin :>
But when you say select a port - which one is the most preferable one or
which are the range of ports I can use? I don't want to pick one and
find I
screw up access or Portsentry kicks in for some reason :>

I installed webmin on a local Linux box to play with. I found it rather
cumbersome and difficult to use. However, the Cobalt GUI is
over-simplified and therefore limiting. It would be nice to find one
that is somewhere in the middle, or had different IF's for different
levels of control.
Maybe some of us should just create a open source admin GUI that works
on Cobalt machines and Linux boxes alike with configurable control
levels. *Like any of us have time to do that though*

Subject: [cobalt-users] Neomail problem with forwarding email? (fwd)
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Any ideas??
----------
Noticed a small problem with Neomail - if you receive a message into
your
Neomail mailbox that contains an attachment - if you then try to
"forward"
that message it loses the attachment whereas a normal email program
(Outlook etc.) would have sent it as well?
The work-around is to save the attachment to the local hard drive from
the
first message then re-attach it onto the second message - but this is
rather messy and it would be much better if Neomail would handle
forwarded
attachments without this intermediate step.
Another product we were evaluating before Cobalt released the Neomail
.pkg
fiel for the RaQ's was Squirrelmail - this is an IMAP compliant web
email
package and handles attachments being forwarded fine. Problem is
(although
not difficult to install) it is harder than the Cobalt supplied Neomail
.pkg option!?
Is this just an issue with Neomail? Anyone else noticed it?
Thank you.

I have used webmin on all my servers including the cobalts now for
almost a
year.
At first it was a little bit difficult or cumbersome, but It works very
well once
you are used to it. The file manager area is VERY GOOD, and you can
write
your
own modules for webmin if you like.

theoretically it should not be a problem. It would be nice to get an

Hmmm, good info. That being the case (output to stdout) then
one should also be able to "code" a php script to "cat" the
file to gzip and actually "output" it back at the browser by
pre-pending the appropriate:
print "Content-type: stream/x-gzip\n\n";
((above line not necessarily correct))
So the browser knows what it is receiving, without ever
actually "storing" it as a compressed file on the server.
If the browser "understands" the "type" it would open with that
program, else it should pop up the infamous "Open/Save/Cancel"
window....
