Hi Guys and gals.
I've been reading the post re Backups and seen the script that was used to
FTP across. I've also seen the solution from andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to use
mounted nfs to achieve this.
A couple of months ago I posed the question as to whether it would work and
got no reply so here we go again.
I need to know whether Im totally up-the-creek
1. I have two Raqs located with the same colo - (hosteurope) on the same
Lan. Same C class. 217.123.n.1 (RAQA) and 217.123.n.35 (RAQB)
2. I propose to run portmap and nfs on the target machine making the
appopriate entry in /etc/exports
3. Then use cmuExport to export to /home/cmu
4. tar and gzip it up
tar clf - . |gzip > /home/backup/backup-`hostname`-`date +%d-%m-%Y`.tar.Z
(would this date format work ???)
5. NFS mount to local drive
6. copy the file over
7. umount
Questions??
OK to leave the portmap and nfs running ?? after all its on the same lan
any overhead?
I know how to bring it back
how to gunzip and untar and then CMU Import
Can I run this in both directions - backing up each other
Blessings
