RE: [cobalt-users] Root Password

I believe that if you did change the root password with the methods suggested, an Admin user could reset it using the GUI. By changing his Admin password, he would also change the root password.

I have mentioned this to Taco before and I believe he has modified the Raq, so that the Admin and Root passwords are separated, for a client on a previous occasion. This would be very useful if your client was the Admin but you did not want them to gain root access.

Hi Richard,

Login as root (su -)

To change root password, type:
passwd <enter>
Type new password <enter>

To change admin password, type:
passwd admin <enter>
Type new password <enter>

I've had separate passwords for admin & root ever since I've had my Raq 4
and I haven't noticed any problems with it. The only thing I believe would
reset both passwords, would be to change the admin password from the GUI.

Ervin.
