I have had no problems with the RaQ 2-4 by performing the following:

1)login as admin
2)'su' to root. Initially your root password is your admin password.
3)Issue the command 'passwd root' at the prompt.
4)enter the new password and confirm.

Then you will have a differing root password from your admin account. I
haven't seen where this would mess with the GUI's database or files.
