Your subject is exactly correct, relaying is by IP only, sendmail looks up
the name when it reads the access/relay file and that's what you get ;)

Using a cname for your name->ip isn't going to work here, it all gets
resolved down to an IP at startup...It won't look again

POP-before-SMTP mode should work tho
