i set up an alias for myself "eric" (since many people misspell it).

[root log]# /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv eric
eric... User unknown

looking in /var/log/maillog i see these lines that look like errors (not in
order):

Oct 4 09:44:28 ns1 sendmail[23433]: f94DiSF23433: <eric@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>...
User unknown

Oct 4 14:27:20 ns1 sendmail[9620]: f94IRKR09620: <test@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>...
User unknown

Oct 4 14:39:36 ns1 sendmail[10207]: gethostbyaddr(66.33.105.148) failed: 1
Oct 4 14:39:36 ns1 sendmail[10207]: gethostbyaddr(66.33.105.149) failed: 1
Oct 4 14:39:36 ns1 sendmail[10207]: gethostbyaddr(66.33.105.152) failed: 1
Oct 4 14:39:46 ns1 sendmail[10228]: gethostbyaddr(66.33.105.148) failed: 1

Oct 4 14:39:46 ns1 sendmail[10228]: gethostbyaddr(66.33.105.152) failed: 1

running newaliases, i get this:
[root mail]# newaliases
/etc/mail/aliases: 17 aliases, longest 10 bytes, 189 bytes total
/etc/mail/aliases.majordomo: 42 aliases, longest 83 bytes, 2124 bytes total
