I'm wondering if this has become a problem for someone yet... most email
programs check mail about every 10 minutes, automatically, so long as the
user is connected to the 'net. Now if you have 1000 users, and these usrs
are all on high speed access, that's 100 visits to the qpopper per minute,
which breaks down to 1.6 visits to the qpopper per second, on average. Now
that doesn't even count the technically savvy who figure, well, I'm on high
speed, I might as well check email every 5 minutes.... etc.
When does automated email retrieval like this become a load problem?
Right now I have 200 to 250 email users, and many of those are dialup, so
this has not become a problem for me, yet. However, I figure its just a
matter of time before I have more and more high speed email users.
