Not that high, but i saw about 2.5 on a raq2....
(Getting 2-5 hits/second for a while , poor thing)

Actualy, i'm kinda impressed how well a raq2 did , considering, heck of a
way to do a load test tho -/

in.qpopper is a little piggish by the way in general, having a large
number of users will make it worse, disk issues are possible, but unlikely
for a load average of just 3, i'd guess you are just seeing cumulative
effects of several things at once...(How much free ram do you have left?)
