Hi Tom,
The only real advantage that pkg's represent is that you can easily upload
them via the cobalt gui, and therefore are more accessible for beginners
then standard RPM's.
Another advantage of pkg's is that you can include script to be executed in
the pkg's and you cannot do so when constructing RPM ( I'm not 100% sure
about this one though, if anyone could confirm this one ).
For your second questions you should check the archives, you'll surely find
some interesting websites.
