Have you done the obvious and tried to reboot the machine? If you have,
then ssh/telnet in and do:
ps auxw | grep sendmail
check to see if there are any listings like below.
root 676 0.0 0.8 2060 1080 ? S Sep26 0:00 sendmail:
accepting connections on port 25
If not then check /var/log/messages and see why, possibly, sendmail is not
starting.
You can also try doing:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart
and see what happens then.
