It Actually boots twice, sort of, the rom image has a bootable kernel that
can netboot, that's how you load the OS from the restore cd. When not
netbooting, it loads the kernel from the hard disk instead...so, yes, you
have to have a good kernel image on the hard drive :)  You don't really
need to worry about the rom'd one, if you loose it the machine is going
back to the factory anyhow -/
