Re: [cobalt-users] DNS and/or Routing Problem

Ah, well, gsh, you've really helped me out, and I thank you very much. Between you
and an interliant help page, also mentioned in the list archives, many of the dns
problems are solved. The secondary name server now passes the traceroute, as do all
other assigned IP addresses. The parent domain web and mail services work with and
without www prefix, but the other domain's web/mail services still work only with
the www prefix.

I added a domain for the secondary name server, as you suggested. I added domains
for the remaining IP addresses, entering two addresses for each domain, one with
www and the other without, which solved the resolution of assigned secondary name
server and assigned IPs problems.

The one domain/mail service that won't work without the www prefix won't
traceroute without the www prefix either. Have removed the site, rebooted and
readded it. The info contained in both address files is identical except for "host"
-- one address contains www for host and the other is blank. This domain's IP
passes traceroute, and the domain name has been registered for about two weeks. Am
wondering, are there places in the file system that can cache outdated information
such as this?

The domain name is jackrussellcountry.com/www.jackrussellcountry.com (IP
208.142.72.142). If you call it with the www prefix, and if you mail with the www
prefix, it works. Without, it doesn't.

Of course, I cannot test the remaining IP numbers/domains to see if their domain
names resolve. These domains are housed elsewhere right now and use different name
servers until I can move their files and change their name servers to this new one.
Does that mean it's possible that their domain names/mail services won't work
without the www prefix either after transfer? If so, I have more problems to solve
and do not have a clue about what they are. Will change one domain's name server
(its files are already on the RAQ and ready to go) and see what happens in the next
couple of days. Again, thanks for your help. Am all ears for any more suggestions.

Thanks, Nell Bolen
