Gee... he even has a subdomain registered for me <wry grin>.  Definitely
wildcard DNS and a great reason to NOT run it.

He couldn't create an error in the stanford.edu zone, could he?

More likely stanford has problem.

There isn't a host named sherlock.stanford.edu:

So he's getting the email back.

The funny error message is a wildcard-DNS problem, that's all the local
DNS configuration involvement.

I obviously sent my previous reply too quickly, without serious
checking.
