Thanks to Scott Elliot (owner of the original issue above) for the solution
to this issue. I emailed him off-list and he gave me some options to try.
For those others who might at some time experience this same problem, here's
what worked for me:
I unchecked the "Accept Email for Domain" and "Web Access by Domain" options
in the GUI. After I saved these settings, I was then able to send email to
the aliases.
Then I simply re-checked the options again and saved them. Now I can send
email to the aliases.
For some reason, it worked.
