So you're saying I should tell him to leave his linux desktops behind
and go to Windows?

Which one? 95 (also years ago), the last one to not require more
software/hardware than God himself? or 98 (three years ago), the last
"home-user" one doesn't try to hide everything from you? or NT, the
last client/server business platform to not require expensive machine
upgrades every few years, or W2000, which cost a fortune and will be
"dead" in another half year <frown>?

Or perhaps ME, known by all who've ever tried it to be a giant step
backwards; it's not good for much more than running AOL, believe me <wry
grin>.

Or perhaps XP, which will require a call for Microsoft for permission
every time you reinstall it, and will expire in three years even if you
leave it on the same machine?

(Don't get me wrong, I know their good points as well; I have a hand
full of fingers to count 'em on and still have three left over <smile>.)

If I do that he's much more likely to find someone else to administer
his Cobalt box.

We're already considering a downgrade to RaQ3 software, if the
restore-disk will work.

Netscape 6 is a downgrade. Ask any html programmer.

I guess no one knows. Leastwhile no one on the list on a Sunday <wry
grin>.
