Sendmail has a 1001 options and it would not be possible to mention all of
them in the appliance manual.

I don't see anything wrong with that approach. I suggest that you verify
whether the .cf generated by the cobalt.mc is identical to your current cf.
You might need to add the rulesets for POP before SMTP authentication if
you installed that package.
