Hello,
Does anybody know how to re-install the OS on a RaQ3? I've spent
more time than I care to mention trying to do this.
The RaQ3 does not currently have a working root partition.
The rescue disc has a README.TXT file stating to connect a crossover
between the machine with the CDROM and the Cobalt. I've done this. The
README then states to power-on the Cobalt while holding down the left
and right (arrow) buttons. I hold them down, turn on the power, and
wait until I'm blue in the fingers. The README lastly states to follow
the instructions on the LCD screen to restore the Cobalt OS.
Instructions? Nothing happens when I hold down those buttons except
some fancy arrow imprints left behind on my fingers for the next two
minutes (...here comes the rant). This whole process makes me think:
What would the server do anyway, it isn't as if it can communicate with
a CD-ROM on a foreign machine to read boot images without some kind of
software interface. The README doesn't say it, but perhaps this method
is an attempt at a netboot (considering the required crossover)? That
would mean that we have a bit of an oversight as I see it, as a BOOTP
server is a pretty major pre-requisite for a netboot - a pre-requisite
that isn't actually covered in the README. No BOOTP agent exists on the
rescue disc either (as far as I can tell).
<sigh> This is getting tedious. If anybody out there can give me
some help, or point me in the right direction, I'd be very appreciative
- I might even sell you my Cobalt for a six pack. =]
