I'm not sure if you know this, but the GUI keeps all of its data in 
the PostgreSQL database.
When you changed the password for 'admin', most likely you locked the 
GUI out and it can't get to the stuff that it needs? Not sure.
Try changing that password for admin back to what it was and see if 
that helps.
