1. The reason you don't find much in the archives is that it's not a cobalt
issue for the most part.
http://teamcobalt.interliant.com/pg_initstart.shtml has some info on the RaQ
and DNS.
http://www.dns.net/dnsrd/docs/whatis.html has some helpful info.
2. I wouldn't have used NSI now to register my nameservers.
3. I don't think it's possible to have the same IP for ns1.domain.com and
ns2.domain.com for nameservers. I didn't think NSI would let you register
another nameserver on the same IP.
4. You might want to get a tool like Net Demon http://www.netdemon.net/ to
search the NSI database. Type help for whois.networksolutions.com and you
get a lot of info on possible lookups. Like HOST and search for your host
handle they should have provided for your nameservers.
