Ok, the Cobalt way.....as I have found it works for me
create a user for each site,
make that user the siteadmin,
connect to the server ip#,
usermame is the same as the user you just created.
you will log on in a chroot jail the tree looks something like this:
/--|--web <---- this is where you place files for the site
|--logs
|--users
| | --user1
|--web <- this is where you logon in the tree and
place files for the user ala
thesite.com/~user1
