That is how it is done.

No, but I think the serial port can be used for a terminal.

Try a different telnet tool.  What desktop OS are you using?

Sounds fine ... you will need to use root as the username when you use
telnet.

Firewall would be appropriate.

I'd recommend an external hardware device ... have a look at offering from
Netgear and others.

The GUI for the firewall on the Qube2 was broken by one of the
updates/patches ... I don't know if Cobalt/Sun have ever fixed it again.
There has been much discussion on this list and the qube-users list.
