Used to mostly low-traffic site for quite a while now, we have some recent
additions to our portfolio including some high-bandwidth consuming
web-sites. So far, we have not been charging, or in any way limiting the
bandwidth consumed by any user. We now want to start using the bandwidth
limit option in the GUI for hosted websites for the reason stated. I would
like to hear from list-members on possible ways of doing this, with respect
to raking in some cash from our users for the additional costs incurred with
the recent increase in bandwidth consumption.
What we would like to do is not to charge customers for bandwidth used, but
rather the upper limit set in the Cobalt GUI in an incremental manner. In a
way, customers would be paying for speed rather than bandwidth, the way I
see it. Thus if they have huge traffic, their site would essentially be
bogged down (we have unique IPs for most sites). Their option would then be
to purchase a higher bandwidth limit.
Does this sound like a reasonable implementation?
If so, could anyone give advice on what would be reasonable limit-levels to
offer? We have not done any detailed calculations yet. If anyone has, we
would like to hear about for what levels you charge.
