FWIW, the problem the "special characters" patch fixes is a database
corruption that occurs when you have a username (not userid) that has a
non-alpha character in it. I triggered this bug simply by adding myself
(O'Shea) as a user to several servers, all of which developed severe
quota, imap, and pop3 glitches almost immediately. If you've been
getting a user complaining about getting errors like that, this patch
would likely help. I am not sure it will fix a box that's already had
the problem; even deleting my ID from the affected systems left them in
an unstable state.
One could get the impression that there are not too many Irish (or
Italian, or even Indian) surnames to be found in Sun's QA department.
:-)
(They say irish people have hot tempers. Of course we do, just our names
can crash a (*&^%$# computer!)

I sent a request to Sun/Cobalt on the posting/removal/reposting of 9972
and
posting of 9925.
Here is the reply for anyone who is interested.
Jared asked me to answer your question regarding 9972.
9972 was posted prematurely originally. The package itself was ok. The
reason it was pulled was that there was a dependency that was not ready
for
posting, which was the update 9925. But now everything is ok.
I do not handle the actually posting but I did check to make sure that
the
order of the posting will be corrected.
I hope this answers your question.

We should have that correction posted today. Thanks for the heads-up.

Paul
