Happy for you if this worked. Don't count on it. I do believe that each drive has it's own cable coming from an IDE connector on the motherboard. If this is the case with your computer as it is in the manual, then they are both primary on their bus. The connector toward the back of the case is the secondary and go to the drive on the left and the connector towards the front of the case is the primary and should go to the drive on the right. If they are on the came cable, then one needs to be marked as slave or as cable select and the other as master on no selection depending on the drives used.> -----Original Message----- > From: sai@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx@CPR > Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 10:51 AM > To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Re: [cobalt-users] RAQ 4r RAID Dead > > > Sounds like the secondary drive, the one with the slave jumper setting on > the hard disk, is dead. > > Because hdaX is listed as active and had is the master channel / primary > device > hdb is master channel / secondary device. > > E.t.c... Thanks. It was the secondary. Jumpers on both drives are set to Master. I haven't looked in any of my other boxes to check if they are different. Curtis
I personally think you still have a problem. I think by opening the case and "messing around" with the drives, you got the non working drive to start again. It may work for years or until you get this. I wish you the best, but as a hardware tech, I suggest you get another drive and be ready.
