For anyone who is interested I left this message to deliver to the list.. 
The message *did* deliver to everyone in the list eventually after a few
bounced addresses,
however some recipients got 10 (!) copies of the message.. and were
understanably annoyed.. 
Does this mean that cobalts mailing lists 'fall-over' as soon as there is an
invailid address?
Doesn't seem very scalable..
