[cobalt-users] Confused...

Hello

I am having an extremely slow email response from my raq2. While I have no
problem whatsoever sending email, incoming email takes over 60 seconds to
connect. Furthermore, it is also taking 3-5 minutes to connect to my raq2
via ftp. While files transfer quickly once connected, I must wait for up to
5 minutes for each connection to the server to transfer each file uploaded.
As such, it can sometimes take hours to upload a single web directory. I
should mention that I am having this same problem ftping into any server,
regardless of its location.

I configured this server for the first time last week. While doing so, my
internet connection abruptly went out before I was able to move any of my
domains to the raq. My connection to the internet did not return until the
following day. After completing the raq configuration, I began experiencing
the problems mentioned above. I am relatively confident that my dns settings
are properly configured, though as a novice raq user I could be very wrong.

I connect to the internet via a T1 connection. As it turns out the
connection outage I had experienced was due to the T1 being reconfigured and
upgraded. After searching through the message archives regarding similar
email and ftp issues, I suspect the problems I am experiencing are the
result of my ISP not properly configuring reverse DNS lookup on their
machine. Again, I could easily be wrong.

Users utilizing ISPs other than my ISP are able to send and receive email
from the raq2 with no problem. They are also able to ftp into the server
normally and are experiencing rapid file transfer rates. This would be
expected if it were a problem with my ISPs configurations. However something
is not making sense to me: I am able to send and receive email using email
accounts not associated with my server!

Is there any reason why my ISPs settings would effect my connection to the
raq, but not effect my email connection to other servers? This doesn't make
sense to me at all. Am I way off base by assuming this is a problem with my
ISP? How do I diagnose this problem? Thank you in advance for any insight
you can offer me.
