Hoo man.
Now I know what "All your root are belong to us" means... (okay so I
was clueless before)
And this just makes me believe even more that ICANN will offer up its
own version of the TLDs that New.Net is registering.
They did it before... they'll do it again.

Maybe with the backing of ISPs like Netzero, Juno, Prodigy, Earthlink,
and @Home (whom I didn't write a blasting letter to, because I caught
myself doing a knee-jerk reaction and thought I'd better cool down and
investigate further); they won't be able to. If the majority of the
net is already recognizing these new TLDs then that kinda leaves ICANN
out in the cold.

I was talking to my Dad about it last night, and he said "Isn't ICANN
that same organization you were bitching about last year because it
cost 50 grand just to have your suggestion for an extension reviewed,
and you couldn't get your money back if they didn't approve it? And
you had to have 75 grand in working capital? And another 5 or 10 grand
for something else?"
And I said yeah... that was them... and he just gave me this look. You
know, that Dad look.
Then he said "This is a NON-PROFIT organization... right?"
And at that point I just kinda shrugged and said "Supposedly..."
He snorted and went to get coffee. That told me *his* view of
ICANN... without even knowing about all of the stuff I just found out
about.

Sheesh. Now I'm pissed again. Life's hard sometimes being a Scorpio.
;)
I do have those email addies written down and the URLs that flashed by
real quick of the other TLD registrants; I'm gonna be researching this
even more... but as it stands NOW (Danger: 180-degreen turns frequent
from knee-jerk Scorpio reactions), I'm in full support of New.Net.

Sigh.
