Usually, the CPU's temperature will jump when it is under a high load. My
RaQ3 stays at 29 C with a load of 0.00 (15-minute average) but jumps to
40-41 C when the load is 1.00 or more (15-minute average)
To try this yourself, head over to www.distributed.net and get a Linux
client:
http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.html#linux
This group's program tries "keys" to crack encryption code (legally) by
using all the idle time on your computer. Because the program runs at such a
low CPU priority, everything else on the system will take their share of the
CPU first, then the program takes the rest, meaning the services of your
machine (http, ftp, etc.) will be unaffected. Let it run for about 30
minutes, and check your CPU's temperature.
Also, I may add that even at 40 C, the Cobalt's CPU is running cooler than
some home computer systems of comparable speed.
