Probably so. There are the questions of how exactly you'd write a
script to do what we're all bandying about; but I suppose once each of
us come up with one we'll either post it or keep it to ourselves. *L*
Here's my take on it now... I love running things through you guys,
y'all make a terrific "sounding board"... really help to flesh out
ideas and such.
I'm going to expand my site deletion from one week to two... just in
case of vacations and such. After that I'll wrap up the site and
related files in a tarball and just sock it away somewhere for a month
or two.
I do, however, still want the email to stop along with everything
else. To me, that's a service I'm providing, and if they're not paying
for my services, that means they're not paying to have
email@theirdomain *as well as* theirdomain.com/somepage.html hosted on
my machine. It's not just web hosting we provide - it's email services
as well, ya know. Otherwise, they'd have their email pointed to
Everyone.Net for free.
Once I get everyone moved over to recurring billing this really
shouldn't be a problem, so I might just be preparing for what will
never happen. But it doesn't hurt to do that I suppose.
I've written a little script using some grep lines offered up by
someone (I'm sorry, I forget who!) that will suck the list of
usernames out of a site, and then feed those into the shell tools and
suspend all of the users. I'm going to do some more fine-tuning to it
so you can pass it variables like
Do you want to:
1. suspend the domain
2. suspend a certain user (check off the user's name)
3. suspend all users
4. suspend the domain *and* all users
and then the script will figure out what you want to do, and do it for
you. No biggee there. Still trying to decide from among the multiple
suggestions though, on what to do about that damn forwarding. My
biggest foray into procmail so far has been to set up autoresponders
as per Thom's excellent instructions, so I'm going to investigate that
a lot more before taking any steps. I have gone into user's folders
that I know have forwarding set up, and there is no .forward script
that I can change to .noforward. So either I'm looking in the wrong
place, or when a user sets up a forwarding address through the GUI, it
gets put somewhere else. I didn't have time to do a locate .forward
this morning before taking my mom to the doctor, so this will be
something I follow up on this evening.
And I'm never going to put 'for nonpayment' on any suspended or
deleted customer's anything that someone else can see - I've currently
got my *own* panties in a bunch over some idgit at 4Webspace making a
very seriously wrong assumption regarding my finances and then
broadcasting that seriously wrong assumption through public email
*and* almost taking action on it. Bitch never even gave me the
courtesy of a phone call to check if her assumption was correct. Been
there, done that - trust me, I'll be putting something very blase like
"temporarily unavailable" if I have to put anything at all.
I'll check the length of time before suspension/deletion with my
lawyer and see what he thinks about it. Got an appt. with him next
week anyway, I'll just take my TOS along and have him look the entire
thing over while I'm there.
This has really been the week for me to really define and hammer out
the details on how I'm going to take action when something happens
concerning one of my clients. If you're interested, go to
webhostingtalk.com and do a search for "Raven" - you'll find a thread
I started on a 'possible spammer'. (Hope that keeps some of the "quit
chatting!" whiners at bay - hey, I could've gone into the whole thing
here! I'm sending people to another place. So nyah.)
