I know these are dumb questions, but im a newbie. please bear with me.
i did status, and i get this msg "httpd dead but subsys locked". I have no clue what to do now.

These files should be present if it's running.
/var/lock/subsys/httpd
/var/run/httpd.pid
Also try /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd status
Should say something like:
httpd (pid 9893 9306 30557 30556 30555 30554 30553 470 406)
is running...
