My version of Eudora has only POP for incoming..

Thank you, I'm aware of what SMTP stands for.
I guess then, the answer to my question is: there is no problem caused by
turning off the IMAP service, other than making anyone using that protocal
unable to receive mail from the server and the only slightly irritating
continually glowing red light in the GUI..
