Connecting via a serial port is an easy task as I do it to all my equipment
such as my bay network switches, my apc master switchs, and my UPS
equipment.
I run about 2 dozen web servers in my small farm, about half of which are
cobalts. I have yet to be able to connect to the cobalt via the serial
port. I have tried it using multiple computers all of which display the
output while the server loads but will not allow any input and stops
displaying output after the startup routine is through.
For me it is not a matter of learning it is a matter of it working and it
simply does not work. I also made sure to check the pinnings as posted on
the knowledge base. So if you have a secret feel free to share it with me!
As I mentioned before it may be specific to the hardware of the computer
being used to connect so posting your OS and hardware may also be helpful.
My assumption is that this may be the problem. I had a similiar problem
with the OS restore cd which required me to go through 8 CD rom drives, 3
computers and 8 ethernet cards in order to be able to restore a cobalt
server.
If anyone has a solution to the null modem problem, please share.
Thank you,
Michael T. Ross
