There are mail readers that will allow to show messages organized by thread
(with messages and replies grouped together with replies shown in an
indented fashion). Even Outlook Express allows this by going into "View,
Current View, Group Messages by Conversation" and "Tools, Options, Read,
Expand Grouped Messages".

And it's possible to have emails from a mailing list populate a message
board, though implementing this is a little more complex.
