See some of Dan's useful posts at the bottom of my rant....
I have to add that all this BS about using the archives instead of posting
is just more list BS - Lets see.. if I search the archives for "Cobalt Chat"
I'm going to get a ton of posts with people bitching about list protocol,
and this is the same for just about every other topic. I have spent hours in
the archives sifting through hundreds of posts only to find that never is
the answer actually given. After that I wouldn't dare post my question to
the list for fear that all I would get in return is a snide comment and a
link back to archive.
What's all this crap about it being "lazy" or "stupid" to ask a question
that has (supposedly )already been answered? When I first joined this list
it was over a week before I could actually get into the archives, and I
still get errors on a regular basis. So what's the deal? A person is
supposed to wait until the archive is working, or spend several hours
weeding through bitch sessions contained in posts with search related
topics? I guess so... heaven forbid that anyone ask a question that has been
answered before. Why don't you guys start your OWN "Snobbish Elite" list or
something?
Maybe you can explain how, on one hand, you just can't afford to tax your
super human brains answering ( or even reading) a post that has already been
answered - but on the other hand you have no problem posting multiple times
to bitch about the question being asked?
Or better yet... responding with a post just say that people should stop the
thread, thus just adding more fuel to thread.
What cracks me up even more are all the self proclaimed "experts" on a
product that hasn't even been on the market for a year... sheesh!

That was long before I decided to administer my own server. But, like so
many people I've seen down here in snowbird land who open a restaurant
without ever having worked in one, I guess people will jump into owning a
server without ever having operated one before or reading about it. The
server may be marketed to someone not knowing Linux, but it doesn't say they
shouldn't at least know some Internet basics. Maybe when they make the GUI
WebTV compatible, we'll see that.

Be nice? Wouldn't it be nice if those constantly asking questions covered
repeatedly on the list and easily found not only in the archives but on
Google, would take 5 minutes to search and indicate what steps they have
tried? IMO, at the point someone decides to administer their own server I
would expect they at least had the ability to look at an error message or
log from their server, pick out a couple of words or phrase from the error
and try it in the archives or a search engine.
As for indicating that someone has been kill filed, well, at least it points
out to the next person who top posts or posts in HTML why their questions
aren't being answered. Maybe it's educational.

Yes, you guessed it. Another Spam that could be rejected by using the MAPS
DUL.

As opposed to those who have the time to attempt to police those who attempt
to keep the list on-topic?
Does the term Pot-Kettle-Black mean anything to you?

Not only not technical, but it has zero to do with Cobalt.
Yeah, "most of the people on this list are doing hosting, so it's of
some/moderate/high interest to them."
Most of the people on this list probably drive cars too and a million other
subjects that may or may not be of interest to subscribers to a "List-Id:
Mailing list for users to share thoughts on Cobalt products"

I suppose you concluded the same thing about posting in HTML instead of
plain text?
Here's your post and how it looks in the archives.

What's being overlooked in this discussion is the main value of the email
posts is the archive. It becomes very inconvenient to have to constantly
scroll down when you find what looks like a promising search result to read
what's being replied to in order to understand the response you're reading.
Very brief quotes followed by a reply when read in the archive make things a
lot easier to follow.

Obviously not...but if they're new to the list....or if there was a

Or if it was Cobalt specific and not Apache specific ....
