Re: [cobalt-users] Cobalt user chatroom????

With all due respect; what I see happening on this list is very few good answers to questions and a lot of posturing and snide remarks going on back and forth. (at least currently)

Some of us might disagree on whether or not the remark that started this current round was "snippy"

If it were said face to face.. with the facial expressions of someone you might be familiar with, with a raised eyebrow and quizzical look.. maybe not. Given the context of printed messages and their complete lack of expression and given the history of ALL message boards and mailing lists where problems arise from comments made with different intent than what the impression might be, given the lack of expression in the text messages.. then I'd have to say that more than just one of us here saw that particular message as just another snide, semi-insulting message.

Obviously it was taken as such, at least by several of the list members, or we'd not be having this discussion again...

You are all correct in that the archives and some measure of study needs to be done before asking the questions here but would it not be better to give these messages in a nice way?

If you are going to answer the question anyway.. politely telling the person that there is a great resource of information available here or there would be infinately better than "did you think to look....." That message in it's context on a printed message system would be taken by most as insulting.

Answered differently, with respect shown towards the questioner, the intended result would happen and we would not be barraged with this constant justification and point counter point siege of messages that none of us on the list have asked for...

Be civil, deliver your message with respect to your fellow list member, inform them of their duties to look first, then ask, with respect and and not with a twist of frustration in the tone of your message and we'll all be happier.

This list then might go on to be somewhere that people on it would not be sitting here debating whether or not to add themselves to the remove list..

And trust me, expert and newbie alike, many of us have grown completely tired of the bickering and are considering leaving this list.

Do a count of the last 150 messages and look at the ratio of good, informative answers to pressing questions versus the messages to which I refer..

I really don't care if anyone decides to flame me on this and continue this.. this message and my last plea for this to stop were and are meant as a sincere voice from the shadows to stop the ever increasing back and forth barrage of point-counter-point...

We will never all agree on any given subject but I don't think we came here to convince each other of the validity of our points, we came here to learn about the cobalt systems and the problems that all of us have in running them...

Sincerely
Wayne Sagar
