What was snide about:
"Did you think to check the archives for an IRC channel?"
Did I say, "You idiot, etc." Or, "Didn't you ever hear of IRC?" I asked a
simple question.
I could have explained IRC, but that's for the reader to find within the
referenced post.
I suppose if I simply said, "There's an IRC channel." and left it at that
you'd be happier.

Give it a shot. Maybe you'll get your students to start thinking out of the
box.
You'll at least find out what they're thinking or doing without giving an
explanation only to hear back, "I already tried that."
