[no subject]

I am trying to disable one of the default variables
MYSQL_TCP_PORT

My server is co-located off site. For security reason I do not want any
outside clients trying to attach to port 3306.
I simply want to disable mysql from running a socket connection on port 3306
or any other port ! Having it open seems to be a liability.
How can I disable it once and for all.
I tried commenting out lines in the safe_mysqld file. It did not make a
difference ?
I need some help on this one !
I am at my wits end !!!!
