Uhm, if I got you right, your question is:
"Can I set my DNS server to resolve hostnames/IP addresses to domains
which it doesn't host, by querying the authoratative server for that
request?"
The answer is yes.
It's like that by default, and I have no idea how you change this :0
When BIND is queried regarding a domain/ip, it first looks up if it can
see the zone in /etc/named.conf. If it can, it opens the matching file
associated with that domain, and takes data from there.
If it can't find? It goes to the Root Name Servers (the ones who are
responsible for the zone ".", first searching the TLD (com, for instance),
and moving to the right NS for that TLD (according to what the Root Name
Servers tell him) - and so on, until he gets the FQDN (Fully Qualified
Domain Name)
That's actually, how the world DNS system works :)
If you didn't mean that, try to rephrase :)
Best regards,
