i had the same problem and found this answer in the archives.
su to root and check your crontab to see if the following entries exist
run-parts /etc/cron.daily
run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
run-parts /etc/cron.monthly
regardless i would run
run-parts /etc/cron.daily &
run-parts /etc/cron.weekly &
run-parts /etc/cron.monthly &
after running this check the crontab again to make sure they now exist.
dont forget the &
